First and Second Discoveries of the Forerunner s Honorable Head & Sunday of the Prodigal Son أحد االبن الضال February 24, 2019 THE SYNAXARION On February 24 in the Holy Orthodox Church we commemorate the First and Second Discoveries of the Honorable Head of the holy Prophet, Forerunner and Baptist John. On this day, we make remembrance of the Parable of the Prodigal Son, which occurs in the noble Gospel and which our deified Fathers reinstituted in the Triodion. Verses O thou who art like me, a prodigal, come forward with confidence and tranquility; For unto all has been opened the door of Divine Mercy. In the parable our Savior tells, Jesus illustrates three things: the condition of the sinner, the canon of repentance and the knowledge of God s compassion. For in the person of the prodigal son, we view the wretched condition that sin creates for us, distant from God and His Sacraments. However, we become aware of ourselves and awaken, hastening with hope to return to Him through repentance. Our Savior wants to call back to His mansions all those who have been overtaken by despair, lacking hope of forgiveness for their grave sins. The Father encourages all of his lost children to remove the desperation from their hearts, and revive their energies for virtuous deeds. Through Thine ineffable love for mankind, O Christ our God, have mercy upon us. Amen. March is Antiochian Women Month

3 THE EPISTLE (For the Discovery of the Forerunner s Honorable Head) The righteous shall rejoice in the Lord. O God, hear my voice. The Reading from the Second Epistle of St. Paul to the Corinthians. (4:6-15) Brethren, it is the God Who said, Let light shine out of darkness, Who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, to show that the transcendent power belongs to God and not to us. We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. While we live we are always being given up to death for Jesus sake, so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh. So death is at work in us, but life in you. Since we have the same spirit of faith as he had who wrote, I believed, and so I spoke, we too believe, and so we speak, knowing that He Who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into His presence. For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God. The Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke. And he divided his living between them. Not many days later, the younger son gathered all he had and took his journey into a far country, and there he squandered his property in loose living. And when he had spent everything, a great famine arose in that country, and he began to be in want. So he went and joined himself to one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed swine. And he would gladly have fed on the pods that the swine ate; and no one gave him anything. But when he came to himself he said, How many of my father s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, but I perish here with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son; treat me as one of your hired servants. 5 م ا أ ح س ن و م ا أ ج م ل أ ن ي س ك ن اإل خ و ة م ع ا! يمكن القول إن المزمور ٢٣١ هو من بين أروع المؤل فات المصغ رة في الكتاب المقد س:»ه و ذ ا م ا أ ح س ن و م ا أ ج م ل أ ن ي س ك ن اإل خ و ة م ع ا! ذ ل ك ك األ ط ي اب عل ى الرأس الن ازلة عل ى اللح ي ة ل ح ية ه ار ون الن ازلة عل ى ج ي ب ق م يص ه. م ث ل ن د ى ح ر م ون الن از ل ع ل ى ج بال ص ه ي و ن. أل ن ه ه ن اك أ م ر الرب ب ال ب ر ك ة والح ي اة إ ل ى األ ب د.«تحافظ هذه النسخة العربي ة على ميزة رقيقة ولكن ها ذات أهم ي ة هيكلي ة لكل من النصوص األصلي ة )العبري ة واليوناني ة الكنسي ة( أي أن للمزمور فعال محدود ا واحد ا وهذا الفعل موجود في اآلية األخيرة:»أم ر.«الب ر كة في هذا المزمور هي موضوع أمر أو مرسوم إلهي :»أ م ر الر ب ب ال ب ر ك ة.«أيض ا الب ر كة المرسومة من الرب هي الحياة األبدي ة وقد أمر بها في جبال صهيون المقد سة. هذه أورشليم»الجديدة«التي تظهر في الفصول األخيرة من سفر الرؤيا أورشليم ك»بيت «لإلخوة الذين يسكنون مع ا كواحد. هذا هو المعنى األخير ل»م ا أ ح س ن و م ا أ ج م ل.«المعنى إذ ا هو الحياة األبدي ة. مكان تحقيق األمر أو»المرسوم «اإللهي بالب ر كة يقع»ه ن اك «هو يبر ز بنبرة خاص ة في النص األصلي كما في الترجمة الحالي ة. الب ر كة في هذا المزمور ليست مجر د»ب ر كة عام ة «ت سكب بشكل عشوائي. بل هي محد دة بالمقابل بمكان معي ن. وهي محد دة ومثب تة في مؤس سات مدينة أورشليم المقد سة بخاص ة في خدمة الكهنوت وعلى األخص في رئاسة كهنوت هارون. وهذا يعني أن الب ر كة التي يصدرها الرب ترتبط بتكريس هذا النوع الكهنوتي الذي يتم تعريف شعب هللا على أساسه بأن ه»ك ه ن وت م ل وك ي أ م ة م ق د س ة «) ٢ بطرس ٩(. ١: عملي ة التشديد على ال»ه ن اك «في اآلية األخيرة تقف في موازاة هيكلي ة وعلى النقيض من الشعور السابق بال»هنا «التي نقلتها ال»ه و ذ ا «التي يبدأ بها المزمور. فالمزمور يمتد بين هاتين اإلشارتين: هوذا وهناك. تبدأ القصيدة إذ ا بجو من الشعور بالحضور. وفق ا لذلك ال توجد جمل فعلي ة. يتم نقل الفعل في هذه اآليات المبكرة بشكل كامل عبر صيغة مصدر الفعل»أن ي س ك ن «والتكرار الثالثي لمفردة اسم الفاعل»النازل.«عالوة على ذلك ي وصف هذا النزول المط رد على أن ه يشير إلى التدف ق البطيء للب ر كة التكريسي ة وت ستخدم الكلمة ذاتها»النازل «لكل من الزيت الكهنوتي وندى حرمون. هذه الب ر كة المستمر ة بتدف ق الطيب المسكوب في التكريس على رأس الكاهن األعظم والنازف نزوال إلى تشب ع لحيته الكهنوتي ة قبل أن يتدف ق من جديد على ياقة ثوبه )جيب قميصه( الكهنوتي. هذا الزيت أو دهن الطيب يظهر في النص اليوناني باسم»الميرون.«ذ كر لحية رئيس الكهنة مر تين مرتبط بهذه الم سحة الوفيرة ويصو ر التشب ع المتراكم للب ر كة في هذا الرمز األعلى لرجولي ته. )في الواقع النصوص المقد سة صارمة للغاية في هذه النقطة. ال يمكن للكاهن أن يحلق لحيته والرجل الذي ال تنمو له لحية ال يمكن أن يكون كاهن ا(. تحت لحية رئيس الكهنة تتدل ى من رقبته صدري ة من الحجارة ح فرت عليها أسماء قبائل إسرائيل االثنتي عشرة. عندما يأتي هارون للظهور أمام الرب يحمل كل إسرائيل على صدره مباشرة على طريق انسكاب الطيب الن ازل من خدمة تكريسه الكهنوتي ة. هكذا يصير شعب هللا كل ه مقد س ا في كهنوته: الوحدة التي يحتفل بها المزمور هي وحدة شعب هللا الملتئم في العبادة مع كاهنهم. هذا التشب ع المنتشر هو شعر رفيع وغريب بالطبع. في الواقع صورة الندى الثقيل الن ازل على طول الطريق من جبل حرمون في أعلى سورية ونزوال إلى أورشليم في يهوذا ال يمكن إدراجها إال في سياق شاعري تم تقديمه بالفعل بواسطة صور المزمور السابقة صورة الطيب الن ازل على رأس هارون الصور األكثر واقعي ة. كهنوت هارون هو عالوة على ذلك الخدمة التحضيري ة لكهنوت رب نا يسوع المسيح النهائي :»إذ هو حي في كل حين ليشفع فينا «)عبراني ين ١٢(. ٧:»أن ي س ك ن اإل خ و ة م ع ا «هي الب ر كة المعطاة للكنيسة المشار إليها في رسالة القد يس بولس الرسول لكونها:»جسد المسيح «) ٢ كورنثوس ١٧( ٢١: وفي إنجيل يوحن ا»الكرمة واألغصان «) ٢(. ٢٢: وحدتنا قائمة في المسيح وبالتحديد في هذا الكهنوت األبدي الثابت والذي ال يتغي ر والذي يخدم في السماء عبره بالنيابة عن ا»و س يط و اح د ب ي ن هللا و الن اس «) ٢ تيموثاوس ٢( ١: لذلك: ه ن اك أ م ر الرب ب الب ر ك ة!
